Addiction
to Klonipin and Detoxification
Often useful alone or as an add-on in the treatment of
the Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (petit mal variant), akinetic
and myoclonic seizures, the ‘k’ shaped benzodiazepine
class of drug is available as scored tablets containing
0.5 mg, 1 mg or 2 mg clonazepam/Roche, along with lactose,
magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and corn
starch, with the following dye systems: 0.5 mg-FD&C
Yellow No. 6; 1 mg-FD&C Blue No. 1 and FD&C Blue
No. 2.
As a fact patients who are put under Klonipin
treatment, shown loss of anticonvulsant activity,
within three months of administration. Additionally Klonipin
cures Panic Disorders.
Highly useful drug though, Klonipin may be used in patients
with open angle glaucoma undergoing appropriate therapy,
but is contraindicated in acute narrow angle glaucoma.
On the other hand, Klonipin is not recommended to patients
with a history of sensitivity neither to benzodiazepines,
nor in patients with clinical or biochemical evidence of
significant liver disease.
Given that Klonipin produces CNS
depression, patients taking this drug should be
forewarned against operating heavy machinery or driving.
During Klonipin therapy, patients should also avoid simultaneous
use of alcohol or other CNS-depressant drugs else situations
can become uncontrollable. Even worse, Klonipin
can be habit-forming and can lose its effectiveness as one
builds up a tolerance to it. One may experience withdrawal
symptoms--such as convulsions, hallucinations, tremor, and
abdominal and muscle cramps--if they stop using this drug
abruptly or discontinue or change their dose.
Possible side effects include behavior, agitation, anxiety,
excitability, hostility, irritability, nervousness, nightmares,
sleep disturbances, and vivid dreams. To avoid such circumstances,
it is wise to undergo medical treatment.
There are varieties of treatment methods available to
overcome Klonipin dependence.
Detoxification
Detoxification tracked by long-term treatment is an effective
method of relieving withdrawal symptoms while patients adjust
to a drug-free state. The suggested drug-free treatments
are the therapeutic community residential programs.
Sauna
Treatment
Sauna programs are interesting and definitely have possibilities
as intense, medically supervised detoxification processes.
Patients are put under special attention to ensuring proper
nutrient restoration during and after this therapy. Sauna
helps detoxify from most drugs, especially the recreational
types, and daily abuses of alcohol, depressants and nicotine.
