Delaware
Alcohol Detox, Addiction Rehabilitation and Drug Detoxification

The most abused drugs
in the state of Delaware are crack cocaine, heroin,
MDMA, and marijuana.
Those four drugs have the highest amount of traffic and
distribution throughout the state. MDMA is the top abused
drug and is very popular with students, both college and
high school. Since Delaware is located on a main artery
of traffic, Interstate 95 and is surrounded by large cities
riddled with trafficking organizations. Drugs are smuggled
most commonly from New York City, Maryland, and Pennsylvania
and are shipped not just to surrounding counties, but to
other major cities along I-95 through Delaware. The use
of club drugs has escalated with the closeness of the coast
and the nightlife associated. Drug clubs of all types are
available in the state and smuggling through tourism is
common. Seizures along the interstate has captured large
shipments of drugs hidden in cars, trucks, and even campers.
Delaware has very rigid drug laws in place that will incarcerate
non-violent crime offenders and is thought to be the best
first step to rehabilitation by the lawmakers in this state.
Holistic treatment centers are becoming
more popular in Delaware. The addiction detox offered involves
not just detox, but a full body and mind cleansing. Interventions
are undertaken and the addict is convinced that they are
a danger to themselves and others. The centers offer assistance
in planning and undertaking intervention. Once an addict
is convinced they need help, there are several options open
to them. Depending on the type of drug abused and length
of time the drug was taken the center will do an assessment
to find the best match of detox. In some cases the addict
may be able to use rapid detox to purge their body of toxins
and drug residues in a matter of hours, not days. This type
of detox is used primarily for opiate detox and takes place
under general anesthesia. Pain of withdrawal is eliminated
by being asleep and withdrawal takes place immediately thanks
to medications.
Delaware, like other states, offers residential
detox programs where the recovering addict
will take part in a residential addiction recovery program.
The recovering addict stays at the treatment center for
up to eight months in some cases. They learn tool to help
them succeed in their recovery and lower their chances of
relapse in the future. Outpatient addiction recovery and
detox programs are also available and studies have concluded
that nearly ninety percent of the addicts in detox throughout
the nation use outpatient procedure. The outpatient detox
programs have many of the same programs as the residential,
with the exception of a live in situation. Though an outpatient
will not have the same twenty four access to medical care
as someone in the residential programs.
Delaware has financial assistance programs
in place for the financially challenged. Social Service
offices may be able to refer an addict to the proper program
for their addiction along with supplying the proper paperwork
for financial assistance. An addict may also find financial
assistance information at a clinic or treatment centers.
