Connecticut
Alcohol Detox, Addiction Rehabilitation and Drug Detoxification
Detoxification in Connecticut
is provided through a various set of detox programs throughout
the state. Detox centers offer a variety of programs ranging
from rapid opiate detox to in house rehabilitation resident
programs. Addiction recovery takes place when the addict
decides to change their lives by leaving drug abuse behind.
This is a long and arduous task but can be very successful
if the addict is determined to break the drug abuse cycle.
Medically supervised programs are available in Connecticut
and support alcohol detox, opiate detox, and general drug
detox. Many addiction recovery centers offer medications
to ease the withdrawal process and to help the body purge
drug residues and toxins from the nervous system.
Treatment centers can be found by referrals
from a family physician, internet and phone searches. Many
treatment centers will mail information to the home of the
addict or conduct a tour of the facility. A quality program
will offer counseling and aftercare support for the addiction
recovery process. Detoxification is only the first step,
while a full recovery will depend on the type of care received
and the personal dedication of the recovering addict. Treatment
centers in the state of Connecticut can offer tools for
the addiction recovery that help the individual learn to
cope with life after addiction. Learning ways to deal with
situations such as meeting up with old drug abusing friends,
withstanding cravings, channeling cravings into different
avenues, and avoidance tactics increases chances of not
relapsing.
A few of the detox programs in Connecticut
are inpatient residential, partial hospitalization, and
outpatient treatment. Inpatient treatment involves the patient
taking a room or bed at the treatment center and attending
treatment services daily. Twenty four hour support and medical
care is available to the patient. Partial hospitalization
is similar to inpatient, with the patient receiving addiction
recovery inpatient services but still leaving the treatment
centers to go to their own home after a specified time spent
participating in detox during the day or evening. Outpatient
services include counseling, possible medication, and phone
support.
Rapid detox is a medically supervised program
that requires the patient to be under anesthesia while medication
is used to quickly purge the body of drug residues. This
brings on an immediate withdrawal, but the patient will
feel very little to no pain as they are under anesthesia
and the cravings they may possibly experience will be much
less than if they had chosen a medication free detox. Withdrawal
during rapid detox usually lasts from five to six hours
instead of days. These type of detox programs are the addiction
recovery of choice for opiate detox.
Many of the treatment centers in Connecticut
also offer alcohol detox. There are also alcohol detox centers
that are devoted only to alcoholics and their detoxification.
This addiction detox can also be medically supervised, though
the most familiar to many people are the twelve step programs.
Some alcohol detox centers offer medications that will subdue
or nearly eliminate the cravings felt during detox. Withdrawal
symptoms are very familiar to most people and known as the
D.T.’s. Symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can include
nausea , shaking, hallucinations, and possible vomiting.
Medication can suppress those symptoms totally and help
with cravings of alcohol. Counseling during the addiction
recovery addresses the mental addiction to alcohol and provides
support to the recovering alcoholic.
Connecticut has programs through state assistance
to provide treatment for addicts who may not be able to
pay for detox. An individual must qualify for these programs
by filling out forms at a treatment center or by visiting
their local social services.
